What are environmental fees?

Environmental fees are amounts importers/producers of EEE have to pay to cover a take-back company’s running costs.

Environmental fees are thus not set aside for future costs; rather they are intended to pay for the collection that takes place today. The reason environmental fees are charged to cover these costs is that WEEE is harmful to the environment we live in and therefore it is important to collect all old EEE and process it so that it can be utilised as a resource again instead of polluting the environment we live in. Environmental fees vary in size from product to product. Some products cost more to treat in a proper environmental friendly manner, while others are more difficult. The prices of environmental fees in Elretur vary from less than NOK 0.10 to more than NOK 100 per product.
